MN DPS Estimating Table for Men

The table below is published by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. They put out separate tables for men and women, since men and women tend to metabolize alcohol at different rates. If you are female, click here for the women's table

The table supposedly shows how many drinks containing alcohol an average Minnesota man can have and still be legal to drive.  As you can see, there is one axis for body weight, and another for the number of drinks.  A math formula is provided for reducing the level based on passage of time. This table might make a handy reference, but I want to warn you very strongly against relying on it.  A lot of factors besides weight and gender can change what your blood alcohol content will turn out to be.  The one I notice most often is having an empty stomach.  If you have not eaten for a long time and consume alcohol, in my experience you might as well double all the blood alcohol percentages listed here.

Another thing to keep in mind is that these tables are based on an average, and you are not necessarily average.  Over and over I keep seeing individuals who have higher breath test readings than would be indicated by this table.  These observations lead me to the conclusion that the table is probably about 33% on the low side
